Three Mindset Shifts To Create The Space For Artistic Projects That Compliment Your Professional and Personal Life
by Fabiana Claure on February 22nd, 2020

Last week was the first time I did a Facebook live. I thought I'd share some of the most important initial steps I recommend to create artistic projects.  I specifically wanted to discuss the importance of internal analysis and reflection before being able to assess your current reality.

Some of the prelminary questions I wanted to address were:

  • How can you reconcile the struggle to creating things and pouring your energy into making things happen, while also being mindful to your inner awareness and state of mind that allows you to experience joy and flow in your current endeavors?

  • Why is it even necessary to do this?

  • Are these two things in conflict with each other?

  • Is it possible to do them at the same time?
In my FB video I discussed some internal steps that need to happen before looking outward to your reality.

As a summary from my main points I described the following 3 key points:
  1. Take a step back and give yourself the space to visualize what you really want. Dreaming can allow us to gain a better idea of what we could have. Its so important to take a step back from the day-to-day craziness and reflect on your longer term goals. When I work with musicians, I often hear them describe their most immediate goals rather than the longer term ones. But without visualizing the longer picture, the daily habits and decisions won’t reflect and help develop the opportunities to achieve their long term goals.
  1. Be willing to question the assumptions you have had up until this moment.  This will open you to a state of learning and become more flexible in adapting new behaviors. It will also allow you to reflect on the current fears and insecurities you may feel are getting in the way from stepping into action. Sometimes we establish certain benchmarks of what we consider success and don’t realize what we’ve already accomplished up until this moment. Its easy to let our achievements become forgotten when we are so focused on moving on to the next project. In addition, because we are focused on the immediate next project, this one may or may not be something that truly fulfills us and aligns with what we really want in life. We need to make the space to reflect and think beyond what we are currently doing and envision what we would like in addition to our reality. Yet, as we acknowledge and appreciate our current endeavors, we can still continue in to be in movement and pursuit of growth and change.
  1. Shift to a position of empowerment and ownership. Many of the musicians I speak with may be pursuing some artistic projects but don’t feel they have true ownership of the idea or of the ultimate execution of it. While collaboration is great, its also a good thing to be able to develop a project that ultimately depends on you. It gives you more autonomy and allows you to feel more free in the creative process. Realize that no matter how busy you can feel, by taking a position of empowerment towards your choices and priorities, you are capable of making the time and space for what you want to achieve.

I expand on all of this in my FB video below. I'd love to hear your thoughts on any of this so feel free to post a comment below or send me a message through my contact page. And if you'd like to discuss this on a more personalized way, I invite you to schedule a Discovery Call where we'll be able to dive deep into your goals and dreams.
